It Needs to be Warm

This stupid winter weather is messing up the plan to run a 5k.  It just needs to get warmer so i can actually run outside.  I had to run on a treadmill which i hate.  I feel like it is harder to run on a treadmill but its probably no different than just running.  It was easier to run with the app though then just plain running with no plan.  I just hope i can stop having to run on the treadmill and it can just be warm.

  1. Your thought of running on a treadmill being harder is actually correct. When running on treadmills it puts more emphasis on your joints and knees. This actually causes more stress on them and can create injury. So yes, it is harder.

Another thing to think about is maybe getting off of the treadmill and making one or two workouts a week dedicated to something other than running, but something similar to it. Doing workout videos like Insanity or P90X give a good workout and can be a little more fun than running in circles or on a treadmill.
Also, being a cross country runner, one thing I find that makes things A LOT easier is a strong central core. Having a strong core can help with balance, stability, and breathing patterns. 1-3 core workouts a week can actually improve your running substantially. Try it out. Hopefully this helped and your training will come out a success!

  2. Thanks for the tips Alec! I'll have to start putting workouts in with the running. When you said that having a strong core makes it easier it makes sense. I have started to do core workouts a couple times a week. Thanks again for the advice!
